There’s a lot to keep up with when it comes to freelancer income and tax deductions but we’re here to help you simplify and automate them, so you never have to worry about missing something.

Work
In order to be paid wages, all invoices must have a "work" component with a duration. This is so that we can inform the tax office of your total working time, which directly affects your unemployment benefit and sick pay (from day 17).
For example:
- "12:00 - 13:30" work translating documents
- 5 hours work delivering packages.
- 20 hours work as a tour guide
You can choose whether you want to report your work with exact times, or with the total number of hours .
When NAV pays out sickness benefits, a basis for the sickness benefits must be determined. This is normally calculated based on the average freelance work-related income reported through the a-report during the three months before the illness.

Diet
If a customer of yours pays for meals, you can report it as a per diem payment, which provides a tax deduction.
While the rules for per diem payments are complex, we automate the process for our partner customers – so you don't have to set it up yourself.

Bills
If you have expenses related to the work done for your customer, you can add it to the invoice. The expenses that are added should also have receipts, and the amount of the expenses will not be taxed.
Unfortunately, expenses for our payroll service must be related to work performed and your customer will see the expense as well.
For example:
- Via our payroll service you can enter your parking costs and toll costs as expenses
- Via our payroll service you cannot deduct the cost of your laptop that you use for work.

Car allowance
Driving for work can be expensive, so it's important to make sure you get paid to drive properly - so you can get a tax deduction for it.
For our partner customers, this process is automated - although you can send us your driving reports using a GPS-enabled tracking service such as auto gear or auto mile.
For every 1 km you drive, you can get a deduction of NOK 3.5 in taxable income. This means that NOK 3.5 of your salary will have 0% tax on it.
